Boys aren't born bad, but a hard life can make bad boys.
​     When a guy sells drugs and becomes a prisoner/felon, he usually doesn't become a lawyer.
​     Accountability is a personal decision. Mr. Thearthur Duncan made a deeply personal decision with God's help. 
​     Prisoners can leave jail and become the greatest overcomers!

​     Tonight at BWAP, you are invited to hear about the journey of a man who persevered through hard times and now helps others doing hard times. 
​

     Basketball is relationship building tool that creates a natural mentoring atmosphere.
​     When young people become teammates, trust becomes part of a valuable learning experience.
​     All people will eventually need to overcome adversity. At Halftime we teach them how to be overcomers.
​     Planning life according to God's playbook - the Bible will help anybody learn how to embrace the struggles of life.  

     Basketball is a powerful relationship building tool. Pastor DeJuaine Motley, known more widely as D'Mott, told the young people that "Jesus was not a punk!"
​    When D'Mott quoted the Bible, he spoke about 1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all your cares upon Him because He cares for you." His message was about how strong Jesus was and how He knew how to struggle.
     Adversity is simply a signpost on the mountains of life. BWAP was fortunate to have some very special life-mountain climbers in the house. Thank you Tommy McClam and the folks from the Rise Up Family
​     Painful episodes in life don't have to destroy your potential. You were made to struggle and Christ was a perfect model of persevering through hard times. Pastor D'Mott, Rev. Will Coplin and Andre Robinson all spoke to the young people about the greatness of their potential.

     Brothers With A Purpose reached a new level of truth at BWAP 108. We were honored to have the SpirIt of Truth Boys Basketball Team in the house. Our halftime message was about "Speak Your Word - Do Your Word."
​     We're working hard on our goal of having older guys teach basketball skills with life-skills to the next generation. The guys from Lovejoy are among the most respectful and eager-to-learn group of guys ever to visit BWAP.
​     A dedicated group of parents lead by coaches Robert & Donna Krahling do a phenomenal job as leaders of these young guys. Pastor Al Robinson is only 2 weeks out of back surgery and he still came to root his team on!
​     Plenty of credit goes to BWAP Coach/Mentor Stephon Boston for doing a great job of teaching basketball skills and being a Christ-centered role model. Young people are fortunate to have an older guy who cares like he does.

     Brothers With A Purpose heard some great "life-advice" from a sister with a purpose. Her humility was mixed with confidence that spoke volumes about her character.
     When Cherelle Syph told the young men to lean on God and not their own understanding, she spoke from  her own experience. She freely admitted some wrong choices, but God covered her back.
​     After each part of her story that gave details of ending up in a better place than she could have imagined, Cherelle gave credit to God. "Nothing but Jesus." the young men heard her say with a smile.
​     Praying with Cherelle was a special moment for the whole BWAP family. It was energizing to hear her speak. We know that God is faithful even when we are not. Thank you Cherelle, Jesus loves you and so do we.
​     BWAP helps young men affected by gang violence, drugs and poverty become Christ-centered role models who mentor the next generation. Please call us if you would like to get involved. 716-830-8240
​     On 8-3-17 from 5-7 PM, our young men will participate in a "Grill & a Prayer." They will pray for folks on the streets in Buffalo while serve free hotdogs. We can use your support through the purchase of hotdogs, drinks, paper plates and condiments. Let us know if you can pray for us. In person or right where you're at!

    Young people need a chance to get away from a noisy city sometimes. Getting away can be an opportunity to hear God speak to their hearts. 
     ​When Rev. Will Coplin goes camping, it's always with a Bible in his hands and the Word on his lips. He helps young guys experience the nature of God away from the noise of Buffalo neighborhoods.
​     A lot of guys are willing to be mentored and desire to learn about God. Seldom does the opportunity come their way. Going to church has not been a part of their lives.
​     Peace begins with knowing that you are loved. Knowing that you are valued. We're grateful that Rev. Will Coplin shares the love of God from his heart to help young guys feel loved and valued. We're also grateful to Mr. & Mrs. Law for their generosity in allowing us to use their cabin as a retreat for young men.

    Being a politician with compassion means that you feel the distress of the people. Buffalo Mayoral Candidate Mark Schroeder spoke to the young men at BWAP about being in the lions den. He goes where the people are.
​     When people tell you that you aren't worth anything or you can't do something, it might cause you to put your dreams on pause. Some folks will throw your dreams to the lions. Don't pause your dreams for anybody!  
​     A good phrase to live by, Mark told the young men, is "DON'T COUNT ME OUT!" He then repeated the words of Daniel; "My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions."
​     P​raying for politicians has become commonplace at BWAP. The young men laid their hands on Mark Schroeder and prayed. Their prayers added to the equation of success that says, "Don't count me out!" They prayed Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." The young men prayed for the strength of Mark and his staff.
​     We're grateful to Cherelle from Mark's Staff for coordinating their schedules and making time to speak words of wisdom to our young men. Thank you. Jesus loves you and so do we.
