CAN LOVE BE MEASURED?

My wife Linda and I attended a round-table discussion facilitated by a former-gangster-turned-pastor from Detroit. Linda asked him this question: "How many guys do you think you actually reach who change their lives?" (Meaning how many guys live Christ-centered lives.) The gangster-turned-pastor answered her after some thoughtful reflection: "Probably about one out of every thirty." It didn't sound like a very big success rate until I gave his measurements some prayerful reflection.

One out of thirty is a percentage of success reflected by .333. That's good enough to get you into the Baseball Hall of Fame if that's your batting average. It still didn't seem like a lot to me and I reflected on the success rate of Youth With A Purpose. I have no idea where most of the thousands of young people who've been a part of YWAP are today. I hope someday that some of them come back, and give-back by mentoring other young people.

If you compare those numbers with the success rate of the Israelites who left Egypt and made it into the Promised Land (approximately two out of a million,) they look pretty good. The world is built on numbers. Funders want numbers and surveys, but many times we don't have numbers. How do you count the knocks on you door from a 12 yr. old that missed his bus and asks for a ride to school? How do you count the number of people who are still living because a murderer gave his life to Christ? How do you count the number of times abuse was avoided because a young girl now knows she's beautiful just as God made her?

                                          Love cannot be measured.
If you try and measure love,
you're probably missing an opportunity to show love.

Thanks for your time. Go do something nice for somebody.
Jesus loves you and so do we.

DAY 12 WORD

"I’m asking God to give you a gift from the wealth of his glory.
I pray that he would give you inner strength and power through his Spirit.
Then Christ will live in you through faith.
I also pray that love may be the ground into which you sink your roots
and on which you have your foundation.
This way, with all of God’s people you will be able to understand
how wide, long, high, and deep his love is.
You will know Christ’s love,
which goes far beyond any knowledge.
I am praying this so that you may be completely filled with God.
Glory belongs to God, whose power is at work in us.
By this power he can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.
Glory belongs to God in the church and
in Christ Jesus for all time and eternity!
Amen."
Ephesians 3:16-21
GOD’S WORD Translation

DAY 12 PRAYER

Thank You God for giving me something that I can't know.

You love is above and beyond my comprehension.

Your love shows me how to love in the face of hate.

Help please when I struggle in lovelessness.

I struggle loving those who are filled with hate and rage.

You desire everyone to know love, even when someone doesn't accept it,

You tell me to go the extra mile and turn the other cheek.

I can't do those things without You God.

Thank You for loving me immeasurably.

In Jesus name.
Amen

DAY 12 DEEP THOUGHTS

  • Can you defend yourself without hitting back?
  • Do you stand up for the defenseless?
  • Do you count the ways you show or are given love?
The measure of a man has been compared to many things.
Ultimately the measure of a man is the display of his character as related to integrity.
If you died today, would they say that you carried the measure of Christ as a gift of grace?

"But grace was given to each one of us
according to the measure of Christ's gift.”
Ephesians 4:7-10 ESV

YOU ARE NOW PAST THE HALFWAY POINT OF YOUR FAST!

When you are hiking a mountain, it's always fun to turn around and see how far you've come. Your fast is past halftime and that's a great place to be. The picture above shows several scenes from a program for 16-30 yr. old young men. Most of them live in the inner city of Buffalo, NY.
On Thursday evenings we play basketball, listen to a Nine Minute Speaker and eat dinner. It's unique program that is changing lives. Our speaker is given nine minutes at halftime. It's incredible watching the guys pay close attention to each speaker. Very seldom is there any disrespect. Each week the guys hear from somebody who has overcome some type of adversity.
Use this point to give some serious reflection on what you have experienced so far. Review you journal and see if you can find something to pursue prayerfully. Is there something you would like more of from God?

DAY 11 WORD

Psalm 118 The Message  (The Halfway Point of the Bible.)118 1-4 Thank God because he’s good,
    because his love never quits.
Tell the world, Israel,
    “His love never quits.”
And you, clan of Aaron, tell the world,
    “His love never quits.”
And you who fear God, join in,
    “His love never quits.”
5-16 Pushed to the wall, I called to God;
from the wide open spaces, he answered.
God’s now at my side and I’m not afraid;
who would dare lay a hand on me?
God’s my strong champion;
I flick off my enemies like flies.
Far better to take refuge in God
    than trust in people;
Far better to take refuge in God
    than trust in celebrities.
Hemmed in by barbarians,
    in God’s name I rubbed their faces in the dirt;
Hemmed in and with no way out,
    in God’s name I rubbed their faces in the dirt;
Like swarming bees, like wild prairie fire, they hemmed me in;
in God’s name I rubbed their faces in the dirt.
I was right on the cliff-edge, ready to fall,
when God grabbed and held me.
God’s my strength, he’s also my song,
    and now he’s my salvation.
Hear the shouts, hear the triumph songs
in the camp of the saved?
“The hand of God has turned the tide!
The hand of God is raised in victory!
The hand of God has turned the tide!”
17-20 I didn’t die. I lived!
And now I’m telling the world what God did.
God tested me, he pushed me hard,
but he didn’t hand me over to Death.
Swing wide the city gates—the righteous gates!
I’ll walk right through and thank God!
This Temple Gate belongs to God,
so the victors can enter and praise.
21-25 Thank you for responding to me;
    you’ve truly become my salvation!
The stone the masons discarded as flawed
    is now the capstone!
This is God’s work.
We rub our eyes—we can hardly believe it!
This is the very day God acted--
    let’s celebrate and be festive!
Salvation now, God. Salvation now!
Oh yes, God—a free and full life!
26-29 Blessed are you who enter in God’s name--
from God’s house we bless you!
God is God,
he has bathed us in light.
Festoon the shrine with garlands,
hang colored banners above the altar!
You’re my God, and I thank you.
O my God, I lift high your praise.
Thank God—he’s so good.
    His love never quits!

DAY 11 DEEP THOUGHTS

God doesn't stop halfway, would you consider yourself a finisher?
What motivares you? Can you help motivate somebody else to become a finisher?
Do you mentor anybody?
Who mentors you?
What could you say in nine minutes that might change a life?

UNFINISHED LIFE ENDS ON A SNOWY STREET CORNER

There is a tradition in the city that attempts to give honor to fallen friends. Guys that are murdered get their names placed on street corners with an assortment of worldly trappings. Teddy bears, candles, final farewell letters, whiskey bottles and drug paraphernalia. A vigil is held and usually a Pastor is invited to provide some sense of the senseless violence and a connection to God. On a street corner in the snow, an unfinished life is remembered as a murder victim.
After the Pastor is gone, they break out the weed and the brew. Another young unfinished life bites the dust, and life goes on. After more than 15 years of street ministry, I'm sad that it still happens. I hurt for guys who are dead or in jail. Wasted lives, unfinished lives, wasted potential; it almost seems like love was never known in a murdered young man.
On the first day of this 21 Day Fast, God gave me a two dreams. Both included burning buildings. In the first one, a barn that I used to own was on fire and many young people whom I had known were climbing out of the roof that ws engulfed in flames. I felt sad and disappointed. Why couldn't I reach them to save them. They made wrong choices, but I still felt bad. In the second dream, I was holding a fire extinguisher and easily putting out small fires on ceiling fixtures in what appeared to be a large warehouse type of building.
I believe God has given me some insight as to the meaning of the dreams and will eventually give me clarity. What is unfinished in your life? If you were to die today, what would be left behind that should be finished?

DAY TEN WORD

Psalm 104:4 "He makes his messengers winds, his ministers a flaming fire."

Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten. Their love and their hate and their envy have already perished, and forever they have no more share in all that is done under the sun.

Psalm 146:4 "When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish."

Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 The Message

Seize Life!
"Still, anyone selected out for life has hope, for, as they say, “A living dog is better than a dead lion.” The living at least know something, even if it’s only that they’re going to die. But the dead know nothing and get nothing. They’re a minus that no one remembers. Their loves, their hates, yes, even their dreams, are long gone. There’s not a trace of them left in the affairs of this earth."

DAY TEN PRAYER

Yahweh, You are a merciful God who is slow to anger. You are the God of second chances who tell us to forgive our neighbors 70 X 7. You hate violence against the innocent. Even though we are all guilty of sin, you have saved us by the sacrifice of Jesus who paid for our wrongs. Lord, the wrongs continue. How long O Lord before Your Word reaches to the ends of the earth? You desire that none should perish. Why do young people have to perish? What more can we do to help them feel the overwhelming grace and mercy of Your love? We trust in You. Amen.

DAY TEN DEEP THOUGHTS

"It is finished" aren't words we usually use to describe the death of someone we love. "It is unfinished" would be more accurate. The suddenlies of unexpected death break our hearts in the blink of an eye. Nobody is ready for the unexpected. We're left screaming from somewhere deep inside: "Wait! This can't be happening! We aren't finished with life yet!" Instead of feeling like something has been finished, we're left with the taste of bitter wine.

"It is finished." Those words seem fine for Jesus, but they don't seem to provide any understanding for the rest of us. Maybe they are words for a yet appointed time, but that's of little comfort in this moment. Someday, most likely in heaven, all things that worked together for good will be understood. Until then there is only hope in the future.

"It is finished." Some people carry a greater brokenness than others. They come from a lineage of brokenness. That's a Christ-like legacy. The greater the brokenness, the greater the potential for a greater capacity to love. The greatest leaders in God's kingdom are those who have suffered the most. They have learned to love mercy, treat others with compassion and walk humbly.

"It is finished" are words of wisdom that provide understanding for the last who will become first. Enduring pain is the perseverance root that grows into compassion. Your pain is a seed that will take several painful seasons to germinate. I'm asking Jesus right now to kneel before you as He holds your hearts in His hands. I pray that he whispers to your hearts, "I'm holding you and I won't let you sink any deeper. My love is sufficient for you. Someday you'll understand, but for now, just believe that I feel all your pain and you are not alone."

"It is finished." I don't believe those are the words that Jesus would have preferred for His "end of life" script. The day before His death, He asked God to take away the cup of suffering, but then He added, "Not my will, but Your will be done." There are many times in life that we would gladly take away the cup of suffering from someone we love or even a stranger. God doesn't work that way, He gives a crown of beauty for ashes. He let's the sun set before He allows the sun to rise.

LET ME BE EMPLOYED FOR THEE, O LORD

Folks who live under bridges aree there for a variety of reasons. Some are so addicted to alcohol or drugs that they spend their days panhandling for enough to get their next fix. Some guys have lost everything they owned and their self respect is gone. Living on the streets is a life without responsibility or accountability.
I've never been homeless in my life. I may have not wanted to be where I was living, but I had a roof over my head. Technically, I've never been unemployed, but I know what it;s like to hit rock bottom. It's a place where everything you touch crumbles. Prosperity is a word in a dictionary that doesn't enter into your vocabulary.
"Let me be employed for thee, O Lord." Those were the words in a church bullrtin every January 1st as long as I can remmember going to Elma United Methodist Church. The last time I was there, I decided to own those words. I was working at least three jobs and still not making enough to cover all of my responsibilities. I didn't feel like I was doing what I was capable of or called to do. I believe God created us for a purpose. He will work with us if we work with Him.
I began to pray verses in the Bible and pushed myself on God. "If You knew me before You formed me. Why did You form me?" "Your Word says You will teach me and guide me in the way that I should go. Which way should I go?" "Your Word says that You established the work of our hands. What is the work of my hands?"  God answered my prayers and sent me to be a youth pastor on the West Side of Buffalo, NY.

Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart;"
Psalm 32:8 "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye."
Psalm 90:17 "And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us,
And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands."

DAY NINE WORD

"I saw God before me for all time.
Nothing can shake me; he’s right by my side.
I’m glad from the inside out, ecstatic;
I’ve pitched my tent in the land of hope.
I know you’ll never dump me in Hades;
I’ll never even smell the stench of death.
You’ve got my feet on the life-path,
with your face shining sun-joy all around."
Acts 2: 26-28 The Message

DAY NINE PRAYER

Thank You God for creating us and the work of our hands. You've created all of us to be shepherds for the sheep of Your kingdom. You've created us all to be carpenters who build homes in our hearts for homeless folks. You've created us all to be fishermen who fish for mankind and teach others to fish for themselves. We want to be employed for You O God. In Jesus name. Amen.

DAY NINE DEEP THOUGHTS

HELP WANTED (IT MIGHT BE DANGEROUS!)

If we ran an ad for the position of Youth Director, it might look something like this:

Wanted: an individual or individuals for what can be a very dangerous mission.
You will visit prisons, hospitals, schools, funeral parlors, courtrooms, police stations, cemeteries, airports, mountains and family homes.
You'll hear about atrocities committed in other countries that affect the people in Buffalo.
You may hear or see gunshots. You may see young people die.
You may see a 13 yr. old girl with a premature stillborn child.
You may get your heart broken at least once a week.
You may receive phone calls at any hour of the day.
You'll hear about and witness all kinds of abuse.
You'll get to break up fights between gangs.
You'll give love and receive hate.
You will cry.
So why would you do this?
You'll see the AH HA in a child's eyes when they begin to understand what love is.
They'll ask you to help them make music. You get to watch them dance and sing.
You will climb mountains, fly airplanes, go camping, play basketball and soccer.
They come back to visit after they move, go away to college or get out of jail.
They will ask their deepest questions because they trust you.
You'll get to know what love really is through brokenness.
They'll give you Valentines and surprise birthday parties.
They'll invite you to family parties and graduations.
You get to hug them when they cry.
We do eat pretty good.
You'll get to pray.
And what's your pay? It's not much, but what you receive might be invaluable. If you'd like to learn more about this life altering opportunity, please call us.

CIRCUMCISION and RACISM

Circumcision is probably not what you think of when discussing racism. When you examine the matter a little more deeply, circumsixion was part of the God's design for preventing racisim. Abraham was told by God to circumcise his son and every other male. God was making a covenant with mankind. Genesis 17:12 "He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised,"
Jesus was circumcised when He was eight days old. It was the first wound of the flesh that He would suffer. God doesn't give commands to cut guys private parts just to see us squirm. Scientists found a reason why circumcision has been given on the eighth day and it's called Vitamin K which helps prevent hemorrhaging. It was produced heavilly on the eigth day. There's a lot more scientific evidence, but that's enough for now. More importantly, God was cutting away our flesh as a metaphor that would help us understand the need to put His Spirit before our flesh.
So what about racism? The dividing of flesh was meant to keep us one in Spirit. By taking our eyes off of God, we begin a struggle for power in the world. Groups of people gather in their own unity instead of God's unity. It's a "fruitful-cut" or a pruning back to help us grow spiritually. Circumcision is a heart condition that separates one from the wotld and becomes one with God. Romans 2:29 "circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter.
His praise is not from man but from God."
If you fix your eyes on Jesus, there is no way that you will be able to cast eyes of disdain on somebody of another color. Healing grows after the cutting stops.

DAY EIGHT WORD

Hebrews 12:2-3 The Message
Discipline in a Long-Distance Race
Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!

Luke 2:21 New King James Version
Circumcision of Jesus
And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.

DAY EIGHT PRAYER

Father God, you knew we were divisive creatures when you made us. You've given us every opportunity to let go of oue flesh and become one with you. Renew in us a right spirit O God. Create a greater hunger and thirst for your righteousness. Move us into a position of love. Make us blind to anything but love. Give us eyes to see Your beauty in all humanity. In Jesus nmae. Amen.

DAY EIGHT DEEP THOUGHTS

  • What do you need to prune from your heart?
  • Can you look a person of another color in the eye and love them?
  • Have you ever apologized for what your race has done to another race?
  • Do you have a covenant with God to send racism straight to hell?

THE ONE THIRD PHENOMENON

You have reached the one third waypoint on your 21 fasting journey. It's a good place to be! A baseball player will be elected to the hall of Fame if he can maintain a batting average over .333 or get a hit in one third of their at bats.. Some folks have used the number 333 as God's phone number. I would agree that's a very good number if you're looking to hear from God.
Jeremiah 33:3  ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’
Historians have studied the phenomenon of the third generation. Last year I read the entire Bible Every 90 days. The pattern that I began to notice was a cycle of 1. closeness with God. 2. Slipping into dangerous habits. 3. falling into sin 4. crying out to God for deliverance. Complacency seems to creep into seasons of prosperity and success.       The historians noted that by the third generation, the good times seemed to send a message to folks that God wasn't needed for success. You are one third of the way through a successful journey to hear from God. Be still, be patient, be focused and stay in His Word and pray - DON'T LET UP! COMPLACENCY IS A DANGER SIGN!
You might have heard from God by now or maybe you're still waiting. How will He speak? He might use dreams, visions, other people, circumstances, prayer, and He can speak through the Bible. Keep a journal and make sure you devote some solid alone time seeking Him.

DAY SEVEN WORD

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?"
Then I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
Isaiah 6:8

"But I heard the sound of his words; and as soon as I heard the sound of his words,
I fell into a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground." Daniel 10:9

"He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”  We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain." 2 Peter 1:17-18

DAY SEVEN PRAYER

Thank You God for gut checks. Thank you for helping us guard against complacency. We get weak sometimes in our minds and bodies even though our hearts desire strength. Turn us back Holy Spirit when we begin to lag behind in giving gratitude to You. When the enemy comes prowling about like a hungry lion and we feel like its prey, gives us courage to rise up and face that lion and conquer our fears. In Jesus name. Amen.

DAY SEVEN DEEP THOUGHTS

  • Have you ever read the entire Bible in a year or several times in a year?
  • Do you have a systematic reading plan for staying on track in your Bible reading?
  • Do you have a dream journal?
  • Write down your questions that you have for God and keep track of His answers.
  • What is your plan to guard against complacency?

be prepared

Whenever we take a group of young people on a mountain trek, we never leave camp without the proper gear. Water, rain gear, warm clothing, proper shoes would be among the necessary items to be prepared with.
We used to give guys a list and trust them to be prepared. We've found that most young people need to have someone check their gear. You do not want to be without water on a mountain trek. Proper gear is only part of the preparation.
Knowledge of the weather report is mandatory; mountains make their own weather and it changes rapidly. To get to the peak of a mountain, you sometimes have to wait for an open window of opportunity between lightening strikes or blizzard conditions.
Knowledge of how God speaks is important if you want to be ready for a "God-opportunity." When God opens the windows of heaven and pours out a fresh anointing, you had better be open to moving in that anointing.
."Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit. "Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks."
Luke 12:35

DAY SIX WORD

"Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need." Malachi 3:10

"Then that officer had answered the man of God, and said, “Now look, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could such a thing be?” And he had said, “In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.” And so it happened to him, for the people trampled him in the gate, and he died." 2 Kings 7:19-20

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me." Revelation 3:20

DAY SIX PRAYER

A PRAYER FOR MORE
God I'm asking for an increase this morning.
Please grant me an acceleration in my understanding of Your ways.
Quicken my response to the need for compassion.
Speed up my ability to recognize suffering.
Some folks suffer silently.
Give me eyes to see their pain.
Give me ears to hear their heartcrys.
Lift my head as I walk and help me
to be alert for opportunities to render mercy.
Whatever the cost,
give me what I need to help others finish Your race.
I want more of You God.
 In Jesus name.
Amen.

day six deep thoughts

  • Did you ever go to a funeral of someone whom you felt lived an unfinished life?
  • Why would life be left unfinished if not for missed opportunities?
  • Is it possible that God allowed a life to end unfinished to teach us to be alert?
  • Could you miss an open window of heaven by holding onto the last move of God?

YOUR OWN PERSONAL AWAKENING

I had several dreams last night that were relevant to current circumstances in my life. My wife had a dream that corresponded with a previous event in my life that she knew nothing about. My sixth sense or spiritual sonar is on high alert. I am expectant in my fasting frame of mind. The rest of my five senses are following suit.
God has created us in His image and likeness. Our five senses are gateways to an awareness of His presence. "Taste and see that the Lord is good." Psalm 34:8 On the fifth day of creation, God created the birds and sea creatures. The earth had been made ready to receive animal life. Man was created on the sixth day as well as the rest of the animals when the earth was ready to receive them.
Fasting makes all of your senses enter into a state of greater awareness. Allow your whole heart, soul, strength and mind to come alive in love and share it. Luke 10:27 You are entering into a "fasting sweet-spot" as your five senses get ready for God to show Himself on a deeper level.

DAY FIVE WORD

SEE
1 Samuel 16:7
But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
HEAR
John 8:9

They listened to Him, and then they began going out, conscience-stricken, one by one, from the oldest down to the last one of them, till Jesus was left alone, with the woman standing there before Him in the center of the court.
TASTE
Psalm 119:103
How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
SMELL
Daniel 3:27

Not a hair on their heads was singed, and their clothing was not scorched. They didn't even smell of smoke!
TOUCH
Psalm 115:4-8

Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands.
They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see.
They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell.
They have hands, but do not feel; feet, but do not walk;
and they do not make a sound in their throat.
Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them.

DAY FIVE PRAYER

We are fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image and likeness O God. Our eyes haven't seen and our ears haven't heard and our minds can't begin to conceive the depth and width of Your love. Enlighten and heighten our senses to know You more. Bring us to a place where every part of our being is alive with You. Let us become Your breath. Let us become your river of life. Let your kingdom come now, Lord Jesus.
Amen.

DAY FIVE DEEP THOUGHTS

I once hugged a homeless man who smelled very badly. He came into our youth center several times a week and nobody wanted to be near him. He wanted food, but beneath his filthy, smelly, gruff exterior, he was a broken heart yearning for love. I began to notice that when I focused on giving him a touch of love, my sense of smell changed. My hug touched his heart. His words of gratitude came to my ears. We both tasted God's grace.

THE YWAP FAST - 21 DAYS OF SEEKING ANSWERS FROM GOD - DAY FOUR

FASTING CAN BE A MOODY PROPOSITION!

Mood swings are a normal part of the fasting life. Just like a dog that is in no mood to get out of bed, you will sometimes find yourself on an emotional pendulum. You started your fast on a high note with great expectations of hearing from God and now your mood is sinking faster than the weather changes in Buffalo. What do you do with your mood?
Accept your moodiness as a temporary normality. Your body reacts adversely when it is denied nourishment. Once you recognize the cause, you'll be on your way to an upswing in temperament. Be aware that small things will irritate you. Be on guard with your thoughts and especially your mouth. Think slowly and speak even more slowly.
You are now several days into your fast. Try not to be too anxious in your expectations of hearing from God. He opens the windows of heaven at the proper time. He rolls away the stone in His time not our own.
I once read about an acronym for the word HALT. I believe it came from Dr. Charles Stanley. Our moods change when we are Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired. Recognizing what physical state we are in can reduce conflict in our lives.
Congratulate yourself; you are climbing a mountain to get to God's mountain. Turn around and see three days journey already accomplished!

DAY FOUR WORD

Ephesians 4:26-31
“In your anger do not sin” :
Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,
and do not give the devil a foothold.
Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.

DAY FOUR PRAYER

Whenever you get moody, focus on others and their needs.
A PRAYER for SICK CHILDREN
Father God, your mercies are new each day. There are moms and dads who need Your mercies today. Children are sick, some suffering terminally, and some will die today. Some children are ill from the world's poison, entangled in lives of stealing, killing and destroying life. Heal all our diseases God. May Your shadow fall on the child who is sick in any way. Extend the edge of your robe to the addict. Lay your hands on a gang leaders heart. Pour waters of living water over dry and thirsty hearts. Lift the suffering of parents and help their children of any age know the healing power of Your Love.
In Jesus name.
Amen

DAY FOUR DEEP THOUGHTS

  • Moods are like the ocean's tide, they will come and go. Psalm 107:29
  • Do you recognize and acknowledge mood triggers? James 1:19-20
  • What can you do to restore your patience? Proverbs 19:11
  • Do you press into God when your mood begins to sink? Psalm 37:8-9
