Will Coplin (Rev) introduced Stephon as a young man who is like a son to him. I think all the guys have that kind of relationship with Will. That's why BWAP is so successful. The first few minutes of BWAP are among the best minutes of BWAP. That's when the guys get greeted by Wanda's smile and her great big heart. She serves diligently at the sign-in desk and then goes down the hall for kitchen duty. She is a rock star for Jesus.
A pologies are sometimes a big part of basketball. Sometimes in an up-tempo game like basketball, tempers and emotions can be elevated to the point of overflowing respectability. YWAP Director (Bob) got into a skirmish with one of the young guys on the court. Later he (Bob) apologized and attempted to use the apology as a teachable moment. (Bob is still learning!) A basketball court is no different than the court of life. There are boundaries and if you hang out with the wrong people, wrong things will happen to you. Some of us live to play another day and some folks don't.
Perseverance in creating teachable moments is a BWAP committment. Amongst our goals at BWAP is the desire to teach guys integrity, honesty, accountability and respect. We have to model those character traits and when we fail, we have to model humility in asking for forgiveness. Without constructive conflict there is no growth.
Thanks for your time. Go do something nice for somebody.
