BWAP XXVI - RICHARD FORD & A RUBIK'S CUBE

10/31/2015

BWAP XXVI will go down in history as a very puzzling kind of night. Richard Ford is an extraordinary man who is blessed with intelligence and compassion. On this special Thursday, Richard brought a Rubik's Cube as a prop for a God story during his appearance as the BWAP 9MD Speaker.
What you don't know about Richard is what you don't see unless you are in the room watching his servant heart. He can be found in the kitchen mixing drinks for the young men. He can be found in the dining room serving meals to the young men. He can also be found with a broom or a mop doing cleanup duty after the young men have been served dinner. Richard is a YWAP Volunteer Extraordinaire.
A Rubik's Cube presents a very challenging puzzle. and Richard used it to talk about God. He masterfully described numbers like quadrillion that most of us had never heard before. Richard used several Bible Verses along with his Rubik's Cube. The Bible breaks down the puzzle of life. 1 Timothy 2:5 "For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,"  There are not a quadrillion ways to get to heaven!
Parables are stories that teach a lesson. All of these young men are very talented. Richard Ford used the Parable of the Talents to help them understand. Matthew 25:28 "So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents." We urge our BWAP guys to use all of their potential to achieve all that God meant for them to achieve. Thank you Richard for a great word.

Personal pizzas were the delicacy of the evening dinner. Many thanks to all the YWAP Volunteers; Wanda, Chris, Matt, Rodney, Ellen and Richard. We'd also like to thank Linda Kuebler for grocery shopping. Please continue to pray for Rev. Will Coplin as he continues healing from heart surgery. (Rumor has it that his heart is so big, the surgeons wanted a first hand look at a saints compassion!)

 SPONSORSHIP'S

1. ADOPT A BWAP DINNER - Each Thursday Night at Expressway Assembly we serve a Meal for BWAP. This is an excellent way for your church, youth group or community group to serve some young men from the inner-city. You bring the food and use our kitchen to prepare the food. Our numbers vary between 20 - 40 people each Thursday night.
2. BWAP Adoption - For only $5 per week, you can sponsor a young person from the inner-city between the ages of 18-30 yrs. old. For every $5, a young guy gets over 2 hrs of physical exercise through basketball, a 9MD (9 Minute Life Direction) and a home-style meal. We are a mentoring organization and everything we do is designed to create a more beneficial relationship. We help guys with their education, employment, community service, safe place to live and a relationship with God. Some guys also receive transportation to and from BWAP.
3. 9MD Speaker - If you have some wisdom to pass along to young guys then we would be happy to discuss how you might do that. You would come on a Thursday night and speak for 9 minutes. After your 9 minutes are up, you are welcome to form relationships with the guys as they eat an awesome meal.

BWAP XXV - THE DOCTOR of FRENCH TOAST

10/26/2015

BWAP XXV continued the tradition of BWAP Uniqueness with a visit from the Doctor of French Toast - Dr. Stan Bukowski. The normal format for our Thursday night BWAP at Expressway Assembly looks like this; 7pm doors open to inner-city young men 18-30 yrs. old for basketball. At approximately 8-8:15 pm we call halftime and the young men leave the gym and head for the dining room. We listen to a guest speaker who gives us a "9MD" or 8 minute life direction. After that we eat a wonderful home style meal and then return to the gym,
When Dr. Stan called and asked if he could do something different, we just smiled and said in grand basketball fashion; "Just Do It!" Dr. Stan is a medical doctor and he's also the former Director of the 40 Days For Life Campaign in Buffalo, NY. As a long time supporter of Youth With A Purpose, Dr. Stan has a heart for children on both sides of the womb. He hurts for the brokenhearted and cherishes each opportunity to act out God's love to hurting people. Dr. Stan's idea as our 9MD Speaker, was to serve the guys dessert as he gave them his Life Direction.
After the guys finished the regular meal, we personally served them Dr. Stan's Dessert of French Toast. All of the food was scrumptiously prepared by Dr. Stan and the YWAP Volunteers, Wanda, Ellen, Richard, Rodney and Mrs. Law. Dr. Stan read from the Bible and spoke about Isaiah. He then compared our lives to the making of French Toast. We are sometimes beaten like the eggs and burned in the oven of life, but God turns our beaten and burned lives into a finished product of French Toast. Dr. Stan gave the guys 2 great meals; physically and spiritually.
Prayer is a big part of our BWAP get-togetherness. Dr. Stan spoke of the need for guys to get together for fellowship and prayer. BWAP might be viewed as a short evening in a young person's life, but it really extends into an impact that's life-long. One of the young men asked about the 40 Days For Life Campaign. He expressed his opinion about abortion. He said that he didn't really believe in abortion except for when a baby would be raised by a mother who wasn't fit to be a parent. The answer is that all kids deserve the right to persevere through trials. The greatest people who have lived are the folks who have conquered the biggest trials.
Thanks Dr. Stan Bukowski for sharing your heart. You planted spiritual seeds that will shape the character of young men who will disciple the next generation. Jesus loves you and so do we. #JLYASDW

BWAP XXIV MATT GOULD  TOUCHES THE HEARTS OF INNER-CITY YOUNG MEN

10/16/2015

Bible verses were a large part of Matt Gould's 9 Minute Speech last night at BWAP. He was our featured 9MD Speaker for BWAP XXVI. Matt told a large crowd of inner-city young men that he really wasn't a public speaker. The evidence speaks for itself. By the reactions of the young men, Matt is a Heart Speaker who touches the Public!
Wall-to-wall is about the only way you could describe our overflowing crowd at BWAP. Rumor has it that Matt broke a backboard at the Ken-Bailey Community Center. (I'm kidding!) They closed the Center and some of the guys made their way down to Expressway. "Most people are offended too easily." Matt told the young men. He used some personal heart-breaking stories to help them identify with his message. Heart-farming is what you call Matt's relationship building technique. He gave some wisdom that will help the hearts of young men to grow.
Always looking for a free hand-out, the young men were treated to some free t-shirts from Matt. Each BWAP Speaker has brought some of their own uniqueness to a one-of-a-kind program. One of the Bible Verses that Matt used was James 3:16; "For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there." He told the young men about God, the devil and Jesus Christ. His message was powerful and gave the young men a lot to think about. That's what a great Teacher does; he gives the students something to chew on and form their own understanding. After his talk with the crowd, Matt stayed and formed deeper relationships. One young man in particular has a similar skill set to Matt. They will get together and Matt will share some more of his heart to help the young man grow. Thank you Matt Gould, you were awesome. Jesus loves you and so do we.
Plenty of folks have been visiting BWAP lately and last night was no exception. Two young ladies who are studying Social Work at the University of Buffalo came to learn and volunteer. Carrie Laudico and Chelsea Crane made use of their hands that seemed to be connected to their hearts as they served in the kitchen. They asked many questions and shared their hearts about their future plans. Thank you ladies, you made a special night shine even brighter!

MATT GOULD - HUSBAND, DAD, FAMILY MAN - THE NEXT BWAP SPEAKER!

10/10/2015

Picture
BWAP is honored to have Matt Gould as our next 9MD Speaker. Every week, God does something through our speaker series that literally blows us away! Matt has been preparing for this 9 Minute Speech his whole life!
When inner-city young men gladly put down their basketballs to sit and listen to a 9 minute speech about Life Direction, something unique is happening. Last week, Kristy Tyson, who is a 24 yr. old young lady, was absolutely brilliant and well respected by the young men. They were spellbound by her transparency and brutal honesty.
Among Buffalo's most respected servants, Matt Gould and his wife Jackie are leaving an indelible heart-print on a whole region that is stretching around the world. They make people's hearts smile!
Please join us for some basketball, good food, friendship and a special 9 minutes of Life Direction from Matt Gould.

BWAP XXIII - A YOUNG LADY SHARES HER WISDOM WITH YOUNG MEN

10/9/2015

Brilliant would be a mild way of describing the manner in which Kristy Tyson addressed a group of inner-city young men at BWAP XXIII. She was the 9MD Speaker who dispensed life-wisdom that is generally delivered by someone well beyond her age. Kristy is only 24 yrs. old, but her character is so rock solid that she acts like someone with many years of leadership in her resume.
Well-spoken and sincere, Kristy built an instant rapport with the young men. She began with a Bible verse that has become a kind of mantra for her life. Romans 8:28; "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Kristy told a story from her heart that demonstrated her belief in that Verse.
Any pain can be a beneficial conflict in a person's life when placed under the illumination of God's Word. Kristy openly shared a brutal relationship that has helped her to grow closer to God. She is a very accomplished young lady with a lot to be proud of. Being only 5 classes away from earning her Masters Degree. Kristy is on the move upward on the corporate ladder. She is currently assisting developmentally disabled folks get ready for employment and assisting them in finding and keeping jobs. We were honored to have Kristy share her wisdom with the BWAP guys and we are extremely proud of her. Jesus loves you Kristy and so do we!
Pizza and salad was our official BWAP meal after Kristy's 9 Minute Speech. Our meal was donated by Chris & Aubrey Hammond. The regularly scheduled meal was originally planned to be chili, but another one of our BWAP volunteers, Wanda Torres was in the hospital to be with her daughter who is about to have a child. We were short 3 BWAP volunteers on Thursday. Please continue to pray for Wanda's daughter and Rev. Will Coplin as he continues to recuperate from heart surgery.

BWAP XXII - RASHEED WYATT  DELIVERS WISDOM FOR A GENERATION OF YOUNG MEN

10/2/2015

Bring us your dreams and goals is what Buffalo Councilman Rasheed Wyatt seemed to say last night at BWAP XX!!. Young men have to get in the habit of asking if they want some information about how to make something happen. Rasheed talked about college, jobs and starting businesses. He told the young men that he would help them - all they have to do is ask. At YWAP, we have personally witnessed the truth of his spoken word - RASHEED DOES WHAT HE SAYS HE WILL DO! He's a man of action.
Wisdom - that's what Rasheed delivered in mass quantities. He gave the young men advice about the law and how to respond to Police. He provided ways to succeed in almost every area of their lives. Rasheed demonstrated that he really cared about their welfare.

Ask and you shall receive is a Bible verse that could describe our 9 minutes with Rasheed. Yes, he did go just a little over our 9-minute mark, but he never stopped delivering positive and worthwhile messages.
Perseverance and passion are common traits with Rasheed and his Staff at City Hall. When I told Rasheed what a great staff he had, Rasheed smiled and spent a few minutes talking about how great they were. The biggest point he made that impressed me the most was his accountability to them. Rasheed invites them to hold him accountable. That's the mark of a true leader. Thank you, Sandra Munson, Doris Cooley, Taisha St. Jean, Bria Johnson and Rasheed Wyatt for all you do for Buffalo. Jesus loves you and so do we.

Did you know you can sponsor a BWAP young man for only $5 per week. You can do it for 1 week or many weeks. We also have BWAP Dinner Sponsorships available. Ask us how.

UPDATE: Rev. Will Coplin is home and recuperating, please continue to pray, thanks. If you are in the BWAP neighborhood on any Thursday night, drop in, play some ball, eat some food and listen to a life-changing 9MD Speaker.

Thanks for your time. Go do something nice for somebody.
