Basketball has a bunch of rules that you can't use in football. Life is a bunch of different games - learn the set of rules in each game." That was part of the 9 minutes of wisdom that Rod Watson from the Buffalo News shared last night (3-24-16) at BWAP XLIV. Rod is a heart farmer, he plants seeds of compassion with his words in the hearts of his hearers..
When you play basketball, you are developing relationship skills; skills that will help you in other areas of your life." Rod Watson is one of the most humble guys I know. He was transparent about his personal life. He was real and the young men appreciated his honesty and candor. He praised them for what they're doing and encouraged them to use their skills in all of life. "Don't waste it!" He boldly exhorted the young men. All of life revolves around interpersonal relationships. Rod admitted that his life was built upon achieving individual skills, but it has made him successful in his own way. He recognizes the value of team-building and that's what he did at BWAP - with his words he built a team of believers with inner-city young men. Psychologists talk about inner personal intelligence and that's what these guys are building in the BWAP Program. Rod talked about rules. "Martin Luther King played by the rules, to change the rules and change the world. You guys can change Buffalo!" Thanks Rod, you were phenomenal and humble, those are uniquely inter-personal team building qualities. We will let you coach us anytime! Jesus loves you and so do we. Rod Watson's 9 Minute Devotion or Life Direction can be viewed at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1zmxeBzgoA Rod begins at about the 8 minute mark or you can Google "BWAP TV II Rod Watson." Thanks for your time. Go do something nice for somebody. #JLYASDW #BWAPBOLD Black mambas and flashlights were used for a couple of object lessons by Pastor Brek Cockrell at BWAP XLIII on Thursday, March 17, 2016. He urged the inner-city young men to make wise decisions about where you walk in life.
Walk as wise and not as unwise. (Ephesians 5:15) He asked the young men to repeat a question; "Right or wrong is not our cue, but what's the wise thing to do?" Pastor Brek related a sad story about a 21 yr. old girl losing her life from drinking too much alcohol on her 21st birthday. He urged the young men to make wise decisions. A group of ladies from the "Ladies Night Out Bible Study" served the BWAP young men a delicious dinner. They didn't just stay in the kitchen either! They came out and shared a meal with the guys in true relationship building style. People change when they hear good messages about living a better life. Pastor Brek and the ladies from Renovation Church came and made the young men feel special. BWAP says thank you to the ladies and Pastor Brek. Jesus loves you and so do we. You can view Pastor Brek's 9 Minute Devotion at; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9TqvuisMqg Thanks for your time. Go do something nice for somebody. #JLYASDW #BWAPBOLD T.H.U.G. - True Hero Under God
True story! On Easter Sunday, Renovation Church is sponsoring a limousine bus for the young men at BWAP. We'll drive around Buffalo, pick them up, give them breakfast and take them to church. Hope is something that is unseen until you see the THUGS get off the bus. They smile because somebody like Pastor Brek and his peeps at Renovation treat these guys special. Understanding who THUGS are is very important. After Easter at Renovation, later that evening they'll be invited to a barbecue cooked by Rev. Will Coplin. Generosity is what these guys are seeing from their own community. Can somebody please exercise their generosity and give us about 40 nice Bibles, devotionals or anything you think might be appropriate for 18-30 yr. old inner-city young men? Thank you. Jesus loves you and so do we. 716-830-8240 "But we have the hope that as your faith increases, our area of ministry will be greatly enlarged," 2 Corinthians 10:15 #JLYASDW #BWAPBOLD Buffalo News Editor Rod Watson is our latest 9 Minute Speaker for BWAP XLIV. Rod has been helping young people for many years. He's a favorite at Youth With A Purpose.
When we needed a speaker to help out in a YWAP program at Buffalo School #6, Rod shared his time and experience. He made a difference in the lives of several classes of middle school students. Another BWAP 9 MD Speaker was a student of both YWAP and Rod Watson through the Buffalo Association of Black Journalists. Rod along with other journalists helped young people explore careers in journalism. Kristy Tyson was our guest speaker for BWAP XXIII and and is a proud YWAP member and graduate of the Black Writers program. Plenty of folks make a difference in the community. Rod Watson is a heart farmer who uses his pen to plant seeds of compassion in a whole community. Thanks Rod for sharing your time with the young men at BWAP. Jesus loves you and so do we. Tomorrow is a special day for another reason: it's Spring It On and you can exercise your generosity muscles by helping to donate a couple of bucks to invest in our young men. For more information on that, click on the link below. Thanks we appreciate you. https://www.springiton.org/organizations/youth-with-a-purpose-inc. Believe it or not, last year Pastor Brek Cockrell and Renovation Church invited the young men from BWAP to take a ride in a limousine bus. It was Easter Sunday and it was a spectacular event.
When inner-city young men are treated like they're special, something beautiful happens. It's kind of like the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly. They dressed in their finest and acted their finest. Yes it was one of the finest days in BWAP history! Psalm 147:14 "He endows your territory with prosperity; He satisfies you with the finest wheat." All of the young men on the limousine bus were picked up at their homes all over Buffalo. They ate breakfast on the way to a Resurrection Celebration at Renovation Church. Can you say "repeat?" Yes. Pastor Brek and the Renovation folks are going to do it again! Pastor Brek is our BWAP 9MD Speaker tonight at City Reach, 260 Eggert Road. If you're in the neighborhood, stop in and see the renovation that comes with building relationships with inner-city young people. Thanks for your time. Go do something nice for somebody. Jesus Loves You And So Do We - #JLYASDW There is a great opportunity coming up next week to help support the BWAP efforts. Spring It On is an online community giving day. Thanks for being here. we appreciate you. https://www.springiton.org/organizations/youth-with-a-purpose-inc Young people deserve access to good books. Whenever I have expressed a need to John Mika at The Teacher's Desk, he always comes through.
When you call John Mika on the phone, you can hear the smile in his voice as he answers. He loves to serve folks by supplying a need. Through The Teacher's Desk, John is serving Teacher's and their students all over the City of Buffalo. Another one of John's special habits is the way he puts people to work as servants. He has a unique way of walking through the building and calling out to everyone he sees with a fresh smile and greeting. They serve with an image of John's smile plastered on their hearts! People pick up books, even when they can't read. After many years in the youth ministry, we've noticed that strategically placed books will find their way into the hands of young people. Our newest endeavor at BWAP is a Lending Library. Some kind folks have begun to donate books in the hope that inner-city young men will glean some entertaining wisdom that will help them reach their potential in life. Thank you John Mika and the Teacher's Desk for donating a rolling bookshelf for the new BWAP Book Shelf. Jesus loves you and so do we. #JLYASDW Buffalo is a better place to live because of Marilyn "Skatergirl" Gibson. Tonight she brings her big heart to share with inner-city young men at BWAP. When folks like Marilyn Gibson combine compassion with action, communities change. She is the founder of Pretty As A Daisy Mentoring and Enrichment Group for young ladies. She is also the leader of W.A.V.E. - Women Against Violence Everywhere. Army folks know all about the deification of Marilyn from her time spent with them. The young ladies at Youth With A Purpose carry a piece of Marilyn's heart with them as they grow into their own purpose in life. People with compassion can make a difference - one person at a time. Here's some quotes from her Facebook Page: "I am a person who loves God, and love his people. I believe that one person can make a difference. I love children and I find it my duty to practice and promote, "Each one teach One " To whom much is given much is required. Im COOOOOOOOOOOL!" Thanks Marilyn, Jesus loves you and so do we. Tonight's BWAP 9MD Speaker is Antonio Evans. Antonio is a guy highly respected in the mentoring community by his peers, parents and the guys he mentors. BWAP is honored to have Antonio come and speak for nine minutes to our young men at BWAP. When guys come to BWAP, they are treated special. We don't care if you're the hardest gangster this side of hell, we will still show you love. Many community centers want nothing to do with guys over 18 yrs. of age. BWAP believes that there is treasure in these forgotten guys. As you go about your daily chores, please begin to think about what your purpose in life is. Perhaps you're called to be a part of something a lot bigger than you thought possible. BWAP is a relationship building organization that shows the love of Christ, teaches the love of Christ and encourages young guys to repeat the love of Christ. Permanent is a good word to the kind of life-change we expect from our young men at BWAP. Gang members who pick up a Bible, enroll in college, get & maintain a job, embrace fatherhood, respect women and become contributing members of society - those are the kind of things we like to see as permanent! Every Thursday, young men 18 - 30 yrs. old are invited to play basketball, listen to a life speaker, eat a good meal and form permanent life- changing relationships. BWAP #1 is held at City Reach Buffalo, 260 Eggert Road. If you need more information please call Rev. Will Coplin 716-462-2221 or Pastor Bob Kuebler 716-830-8240. HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED IN BWAP?

Basketball is a tool that brings people together to play a game. If you mention basketball to most folks, their initial response is something like: "O yeah, we play ball on Saturday mornings!" BWAP is not just another couple of hours of hoops. When BWAP comes into a gym, the Holy Spirit is there to play some ball! We invite inner-city young men 18-30 yrs. old to play ball, listen to life speakers, eat a good meal and form life-long relationships. We try and make every aspect of BWAP reflect the character principles taught by Jesus. God has been building the BWAP foundation in Buffalo and we believe that BWAP can cause the same life transformation all over America and the world. After playing ball for about an hour and a half, on a typical BWAP night, we call halftime. The players listen to a 9 minute halftime speech we call the 9MD. It's a 9 minute life direction or a 9 minute devotion. Each week a different guest speaker visits the BWAP Campus. After the 9 minutes, the guys (and sometimes ladies too) eat a home-style meal. They are free to form a deeper relationship with the speaker or other BWAP Life Coaches. The night of basketball opens the door to other BWAP nights that include a Leadership Through the Bible Study called; "Game Plan for Greatness." Perhaps you have been looking for a way to bring more young people into your church or community organization. Why not Bring them in With A Purpose. BWAP is like a micro-church, God is at the center of all we do in small things that make a great big impact. There are many ways to spell BWAP. Are you ready to take the character of Christ to young men and Bring-it With A Purpose? Call us, BWAP is changing the lives of young men and women in a forever kind of way. 716-830-8240.
