Believe it or not, BWAP is on the verge of tying the Los Angeles Lakers all time record for consecutive victories after reaching number xxxii this week. The Lakers won their 33rd straight game on January 7, 1972 against the Atlanta Hawks. BWAP is undefeated in 2015 and will finish the season undefeated thanks to David Mills. Dave was our BWAP 9MD Speaker for December 17, 2015. His 9 minutes of speaking brought the wisdom of a lifetime.
When Dave started speaking, we were setting up extra tables as the 18-30 yr. old crowd of young men grows every week. Dave gave God credit for every character changing event in his life. He told a story about his journey of addiction to alcohol. His story was powerful and captivated the young men. The pictures that accompany this article testify to the truth of that statement.
A man who is married to the same woman for 30 years is not someone who inner-city guys run into on a regular basis. Dave is a Pastor who visits prisons, a spiritual counselor to developmentally disabled adults and will celebrate 20 years of sobriety in January. The young men at BWAP learned a great deal from a man who persevered and gives God credit for every good thing in his life. Thanks Dave, Jesus loves you and so do we.
Pausing for a 2 week holiday celebration, BWAP will return to the courts on January 7, 2016. We will take Christmas Eve and New Years Eve off and return for BWAP XXIII on January 7. Do you remember that the Lakers won their 33rd straight game on January 7th? The Lakers made history with number 33 and BWAP is still making history with number 33 coming up on January 7. Our next BWAP 9MD Speaker is Christina Foster from the Southwest Key Programs. We believe that Christina will help BWAP tie the Lakers on that special day.
BWAP is a unique program that helps inner-city young men become positive character role models who guide and mentor younger children. We need folks who want to help young men reach their purpose in life.
