BWAP is more than basketball. BWAP is about manhood and fatherhood. When young guys take fatherhood seriously, it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood! On Thursday night, June 30, 2016, Tommy McClam spoke to the BWAP guys as a father, a friend and a man with a message of life.
Whenever Tommy McClam visits BWAP (which is very often,) something very special happens. Maybe it's because he has a lot of experience as a mentor of inner-city young guys. Maybe it's because he prays and teaches other guys to pray. At BWAP LVIII, Tommy came and prayed, shared some wisdom and the BWAP guys prayed for him.
Almost accepted as one of their peers, Tommy shared several stories about young men who made self destructive decisions. One young man decided to shoot another young man. His bullet travelled through the shoulder of his intended target and killed a baby in the arms of his mother who was coming out of a grocery store. Our decisions have far reaching consequences.
Praying is the most important thing we can do. At the end of his message, Tommy prayed and asked the young men to pray with him. He read from a Bible donated to BWAP by Leroy Wiggins and The Chapel. His Bible verse was John 3:16, " For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
"Papa Got a Brand New Bag" is the name of a Fatherhood Program that Tommy will be teaching to anyone who wants to be a "Great Father." The program is being cosponsored by Youth With A Purpose through Erie Community College. Tommy McClam - you are blasting away the darkness that eats away at the hearts of inner-city young people by being the light of Christ. Thank you, Jesus loves you and so do we.
