Becoming a BWAP 9MD Speaker is a special opportunity to impact the lives of inner-city young men. The impact could very well be life-long. Reggie Garner from Erie Community College was our speaker for BWAP XXXI.
When I asked Reggie if he had any notes he could share with me, he kindly agreed. Some of our guys take notes, but it's always great to be able to post some wisdom on YWAP's worldwide web portal.
As a New Year begins, BWAP XXXIII will be held on January 7, 2016. Ironically the Los Angeles Lakers won their 33rd straight game on January 7, 1972 and that record still holds. BWAP is undefeated after 32 weeks, we believe we can continue as our BWAP Speakers like Reggie Garner have been phenomenal!
Please spread the word about the great things happening in Buffalo. We are hoping to expand the BWAP opportunity to more young men this year. With a little bit of help, BWAP can continue setting records, saving lives and helping young men become role models who shape the community.
This is the followup from Reggie Garner from his 9 Minute Life Direction at BWAP.
"The 3 points that I would like the young men to come away with is that:
A. God has gifted each young man with skills, abilities, a passion and a future. It is up to each man present to do an INTROSPECTIVE inventory of themselves to find those gifts (their “it”) for which only they were given, to be used to make their way in and through life
B. If and when they find their “it” be the best ever at their “it”…we never will be remembered for what we had such as a particular car, house or other worldly possessions(such as gold…but gold has been in God’s inventory way longer than it has been around our necks… is it really impressive that you have a 24 karat gold chain around your neck?... because we can only borrow it for a minute and when we get called back alas the chain HAS to stay) but rather what gifts (i.e. compassion, love, persistence and respect for others) did we use to bring joy, happiness or love to those around us (preferably all three)…we will be remembered more for what we did and who benefited from what we did than we will ever from who we were…it doesn’t matter because we all return to dust and ashes don’t we? We all have an unknown expiration date so make the best use of your time til it runs out… and it will…
C. I told them to always be yourself in all situations…that way they don’t misuse their God given skills for the wrong reasons…never ever change to fit in or be someone who think will get accepted because you will never know your real purpose…”Love the skin you’re in” and strive to be a better you!!!!! Keep perfecting you and He will surely be grateful….
Thanks Reggie, we appreciate you and hope to see you again as a BWAP 9MD Speaker!
Jesus loves you and so do we.
