An apology just might help a young person climb the mountains of life. I have traveled to many schools around the country. I have asked young people this question: "What do you think of the world today?" Most of their answers are negative; "The world is a nasty place." or "The world is a dangerous and mean place." Then I will ask the students: "Did you make it that way?" At that point they look at me as if I'd grown 2 heads and say: "Of course we didn't make it that way, we're too young!"
I will then tell the young people that I am surprised that they would even listen to anything I have to say. Because it was my generation and the generations before me that have handed this "mean and nasty world" to their generation. I will then apologize to the students for the mess that my generation has left them and I ask for a chance to work together to change it.
To any young person who happens to be reading this, I apologize right now for the mess that was handed to you. We have handed you a world filled with war, hatred and fear induced phobias that cause us to lash out against each other. Yet, inside you are the seeds of compassion that will grow a new world of passionate respect for each other. Please take a chance and just believe that our generations will make a difference by starting with forgiveness.
Thanks for your time. Go do something nice for somebody.
