Every time we get together with the young guys at BWAP - Basketball With A Purpose, something renovating happens.Just to be clear that we are on the same page, here is the definition of renovation: verb, "renovated, renovating. 1. to restore to good condition; make new or as if new again; repair. 2. to reinvigorate; refresh; revive."
A lot of inner city young men desire to have the best life possible and are looking for opportunities to make positive statements with their lives.
Seasoned by poverty and violence, inner city young men go through life in a protective mode. They've watched friends die and go to jail. Life is short so they protect what they have and are reluctant to build trust with outsiders.
Trust comes with time and relationship building is what YWAP - Youth With A Purpose is all about, one smile at a time. Pastor Brek Cockrell and his Renovation Church gave a huge boost for the second year in a row. They sponsored a Limo Bus Ride to an Easter Resurrection Celebration. You can see the notes from Pastor Brek's powerful sermon in the pictures.
Even on the Limo Bus Ride, the relationship building was helping to reach the hearts of young men and their children. Yep! YWAP is a family outfit and we encouraged the guys to bring their children.
