We began our YWAP classes with a question; "Some of the material that I want to cover with you today is generally reserved for college age students. Do I have your permission to treat you guys like college age students?" In an almost unanimous display of raised hands, the students indicated an enthusiastic willingness to rise to a higher level of education.
Allowing young people to act as older and more mature adults reaps a bonanza of intellectually stimulated young minds. We did cover the dangers of gangs and drugs, but we also went to places that the young people were eager to explore.
Powerful would be the best way to describe the learning experience that took place in Mrs. Young's classes last Friday, May 6, 2016. Elevating the learning expectation for children is best done through a personal invitation. Here are a few of the many topics we covered:
- Goal Setting
- Drugs & Alcohol
- Weightlifting
- Forgiveness
- Disabilities
- Better Study Habits
- Family Relationships
- Maturity & Your Brain
- Good Decision Making
- Healthy Risks
Thank you Mrs. Young for being a Teacher of compassion. You are helping students believe in themselves and each other as they build their own personal LIFETICKET to a great future.
Thanks for your time. Go do something nice for somebody.
