When someone is forced into solitary confinement, it can be for a number of reasons including protection from gangs in the general prison population. The cell is called "The Box" in jail language.
A disproportionate number of minorities fill the majority of solitary confinement cells. In most prisons, blacks and Latinos were disciplined at higher rates than whites — in some cases twice as often, the analysis found. NY Times 12-3-16
Please take a good look at the picture of "The Box" drawn by an inmate. There is peeling paint on the wall. The toilet smells and cannot be cleaned by the inmate who sleeps a few feet away. Gang graffiti decorates the wall. The door has slots for you to stick your hands and feet through to be shackled. Bugs on the floor and spider on the ceiling. TWENTY THREE HOURS A DAY!
We visit guys in prison because mentoring means you never give up on anybody whether they've made mistakes or not. pray for this young man to get out of The Box soon. Thank you.
