Yearning for the lives that they lost, family members and community leaders gathered in Buffalo's Martin Luther King Park yesterday. It was the National Day of Remembrance of Murder Victims.
Walking past the displays of pictures and sneakers from the murder victims displayed along a wall was sad. The YWAP Director placed bracelets next to each victim's name that said: "JLYASDW - Jesus Loves You And So Do We."
As each speaker stepped to the podium, stories were shared and tears were shed. The compassion was great and many folks had some positive thoughts on how to end the devaluing of life that leads to murders
Peace comes in many forms, but the ultimate peace comes when folks show love to God and their neighbors. At YWAP, we help young men become Christ-centered role models who mentor the next generation.
Last night we transported a widow and her family to be a part of the ceremony. At YWAP, we tell mothers that they have not labored in vain to give birth only to have it end in death. We'll keep their loved ones alive through a message of hope that plants seeds of respect that will prevent more murders.
God has a purpose that will lead to good things happening for those who believe. The message of Truth about a changed life for those who give their lives to Christ provides hope. It's the way that leads to Life. When someone surrenders their life to Christ, a gradual (sometimes immediate) change begins to happen. Old ways are left behind. Forgiveness and kindness become a standard way of life.
