SURROUNDED BY THE ROPES OF HELL
As a Youth Director, I've seen all manners of addiction. I've watched people sleep in their own bodily fluids, too far gone to care anymore about what they look like. Women become prostitutes to support their habit. Men use women and children for profit. Drug dealers entice the morally weak into a slimy chasm that many times ends in death. All they care about is "Get the money."
Emptiness is a natural state created as a formless void to be filled by God. Unfortunately, folks in a fallen state look to fill the void in their soul with earthly entanglements. Loving the world will cause you to be distanced from God. The reason I'm writing about addiction is to raise compassion and awareness. You may personally be solid in your relationship with God. With an untold number of addicted people all over the world, the harvest is plenty, but the laborers are few.
It's time to recruit and enlist soldiers who will share the armor of God and help addicts avoid evil and stand firm on the promises of God. Time is of the essence. Everyday people perish. Jesus said to take the gospel to the whole world and there is a world of lonely addicted people right under our feet.
DAY 19 WORD
The torrents of destruction had overwhelmed me.
The clutches of death had confronted me.
6 I called on the Lord in my distress.
I cried to my God for help.
He heard my voice from his temple,
and my cry for help reached his ears.
7 Then the earth shook and quaked.
Even the foundations of the mountains trembled.
They shook violently because he was angry.
8 Smoke went up from his nostrils,
and a raging fire came out of his mouth.
Glowing coals flared up from it.
9 He spread apart the heavens
and came down with a dark cloud under his feet.
10 He rode on one of the angels[a] as he flew,
and he soared on the wings of the wind.
11 He made the darkness his hiding place,
the dark rain clouds his covering.
12 Out of the brightness in front of him,
those rain clouds passed by with hailstones and lightning.
13 The Lord thundered in the heavens.
The Most High made his voice heard with hailstones and lightning.
14 He shot his arrows and scattered them.
He flashed streaks of lightning and threw them into confusion.
15 Then the ocean floor could be seen.
The foundations of the earth were laid bare
at your stern warning, O Lord,
at the blast of the breath from your nostrils.
16 He reached down from high above and took hold of me.
He pulled me out of the raging water.
17 He rescued me from my strong enemy
and from those who hated me,
because they were too strong for me.
18 On the day when I faced disaster, they confronted me,
but the Lord came to my defense.
DAY 19 PRAYER
I know You desire
that no addicted person should perish,
but sometimes they do perish -
straight into the pits of hell.
Lord,
You are merciful and filled with compassion.
I'm asking a favor today God.
There are people that you have
placed in my life for a reason.
People whom You want to be rescued
from their earthly torment of addiction.
Whatever You have designed me to do,
I'surrender to Your will.
Could You make a bush burn
on the ground near addicted people
who need Your compassion?
Sometimes I'm blind
to the opportunities to serve right in front of me.
Open my eyes
that I may see the glory of Your love
as an addict is set free.
In Jesus name.
Amen.
DAY 19 DEEP THOUGHTS
People can change - they might need some encouragement and coaching.
Patience is the soil that surrounds the seed of unfailing love.
Perseverance and longsuffering are building blocks for compassion.
You are a heart farmer whose task is to sow seeds of love that will help other hearts grow.
