Is It Time For You To Fan The Flames In Your Relationships?
When I found myself standing in front of the man who would pray for me, two other guys moved in behind me. They were there to catch me when I was slain in the Spirit. I laughed inside as thought, "I'm not going down!" I told myself to relax and think about God. I never did go down that night, but something very cool did happen. I closed my eyes when the man started to pray and in my minds eye, I saw a fire in my chest. Simultaneously the man spoke these words, "Father, light a flame of passion in this man's chest." I thought that was a very cool coincidence. The next thing I saw was the flames spreading out across my chest like they were fingers of flames on a hand. The man spoke again and said. "Father, fan the flames of passion inside him." I knew then this was no coincidence, but an event brought about by the divine providence of God.
Passion and compassion are words we often associate with fire and heat. We get hot with compassion to help people in need. Many people are on fire with a desire to help the homeless, victims of human trafficking, unborn children and many other life situations that tug on our heart strings. What about our personal relationships? Do we take the time to fan the flames of marital passion or parental passion? What about our friendships? How often to we go the extra mile to fan the flames of friendship? Love is a fire that needs constant rekindling. If we're on fire for God, shouldn't we be on fire for people too?
DAY TWO WORD
2 Timothy 1:6 The Passion Translation
"I’m writing to encourage you to fan into a flame
and rekindle the fire of the spiritual gift
God imparted to you when I laid my hands upon you." Song of Solomon 8:6 International Children’s Bible
“Put me like a seal on your heart,
like a seal on your arm.
Love is as strong as death.
Desire is as strong as the grave.
Love bursts into flames.
It burns like a very hot fire.”
DAY TWO PRAYER DAY
Thank you God for the heat of your love. You burn away the useless trash of our selfishness. You've planted in us a fiery passion to love and be loved. Help us to turn up the heat of our love for everyone in our lives. Some folks have never known love and their longing to be loved. Put them in our paths, bring the lonely out of the shadows. Compel them to come and receive the love from you that bursts into flames in our hearts.
Amen.
TWO DEEP THOUGHTS
- Who in your life needs you to turn up the heat of your compassion?
- Have you taught your family or friends how extend love outside your inner circle?
- What does "fire of forgiveness" it mean to you?
