HAVE YOU BEEN BROKEN?
Slowly unwrapping my Christmas present, I could feel the outlines of a statue. I tore off the final pieces of paper tossing them at my feet and I beheld a beautiful statue of Jesus. I smiled through tears. Tears are reforming now as I write this from a tender memory of that day. My heart was moved.
Their mother noticed it first and expressed her disappointment. The hands of Jesus were broken off. The broken hands of Jesus were lying in the discarded wrapping paper that had fallen to the floor. I smiled through my tears as I picked up the broken hands of Jesus. I held them up and said, "It's okay, I can glue them back on." I was sitting in the midst of a family who'd been broken, holding Jesus with broken hands. That was many years ago. I was never moved to glue the broken hands of Jesus back on. Somehow it seemed inappropriate.
Brokenness comes at us through waves of anguish when we experience a loss of peace. Brokenness invades us mentally, emotionally, physically or spiritually causing heartache and grief. Looking at the statue of Jesus and the broken hands, I thought of His brokenness. I found beauty in the brokenness of Christ.
"But he was pierced for our rebellion,
crushed for our sins.
He was beaten so we could be whole.
He was whipped so we could be healed."
Isaiah 53:5 NLT
Broken marriages, broken bodies, broken businesses, broken dreams, broken families and a broken Savior. The broken things of the world are deemed unworthy and discarded like useless trash. Jesus takes our brokenness in Him and restores our wholeness. He takes our sinful condition and heals our broken relationship with God.
You are worthy of restoration. You are destined for redemption. Brokenness redeemed is the tapestry of a new life in Christ. The beauty of your surrendered brokenness is in the eye of your Beholder - the One who knew you before you were born. God saw the path of your life before you even took a step. Wisdom, insight and knowledge is a beautiful mosaic created from your fractured life as you hand it all over to Him. Give your all to Him. He will write your name in His Book of Life. Begin a new life now.
DAY 12 WORD
And He Who is seated on the throne said, See! I make all things new. Also He said, Record this, for these sayings are faithful (accurate, incorruptible, and trustworthy) and true (genuine).
Revelation 21:5 AMPC
Sin’s Power Is Broken
Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death?
For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.
Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.
And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. When he died, he died once to break the power of sin.
But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God. So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.
Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life.
So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law.
Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.
Romans 6:1-14 NLT
DAY 12 PRAYER
Thank You God for removing our shame and guilt. We are done blaming others for our failures. We forgive others when they ignored Your more excellent Way and didn't know what they were doing. Help us to take up our cross daily and follow You. Jesus took our punishment to allow us to have Your perfect peace. Thank You. We want our brokenness to become beautiful bridges to eternal life in You. Amen.
DAY 12 DEEP THOUGHTS
- Broken hands, broken feet, broken hearts, broken thoughts, broken wills - they all become a harvest of holiness when planted in humility.
- There's always somebody in a broken state. God can provide restoration to wholeness through you.
- Brokenness given to God is more valuable than the original creation.
when you weep with
complete brokenness,
for you will laugh with
unrestrained joy."
Luke 6:21 TPT
